Frequently Asked Questions
How does the DIVA LASER work?

The DIVA LASER is a hybrid fractional laser designed to treat vaginal tissue, by coagulating and ablating tissue with precision.  One laser wavelength targets the vaginal lining, deeply resurfacing the tissue to stimulate regeneration and tissue thickening.  The second delivers heat to deeper layers to stimulate the growth of collagen and improve elasticity of the vaginal wall.  These combined treatments lead to improvement in vaginal heath and lubrication, decreased pain with intercourse, and a reduction in stress urinary incontinence.
Who is the best candidate for DIVA LASER?

The DIVA LASER can be used by almost everyone! Some patients have used products like vaginal estrogen, but still need need more results. Other patients want or need to avoid vaginal estrogen, and the DIVA LASER can be a great, non-hormonal alternative. Both premenopausal and postmenopausal patients can benefit from DIVA LASER treatment.
DIVA LASER has been used to address:
-
Overstretched vaginal tissue
-
Painful intercoure
-
Decreased vaginal lubrication
-
Loss of vaginal sensation
-
Vaginal dryness, burning and/or itching
-
Vaginal scarring, after delivery or surgery
-
Lichen sclerosis (an auto-immune condition causing vaginal scarring, irritation, and vaginal lips that can seal together)
How is DIVA LASER performed?

Before your treatment, a topical numbing cream will be placed into the vagina for about 30 minutes. A disposable applicator will be used with each treatment; this ensures sterility, and confirms that the laser never directly touches the vaginal walls.
The DIVA LASER is inserted through the vaginal applicator. It will be gently withdrawn from the vagina for about 2-3 passes. The entire procedure should just take about 5 minutes.
Most patients describe a warm sensation during treatment, but no pain.
There is no special preparation before a DIVA LASER treatment. Afterwards, you should avoid putting anything in the vagina for 48 hours. You may experience spotting or light bleeding for a few days.
Your provider will recommend an initial series of 3 monthly treatments to reach optimal results. Following treatment, a diVa treatment is recommended every 9-12 months to enhance and maintain results.
While each patient is different, the best results from the DIVA LASER treatment are seen 3 months after the final treatment.
