Botox had a global market size of almost $6 billion in 2021 and is expected to reach $9 billion by 2028. There’s no doubt Botox remains a popular non-invasive procedure today and even in the coming years.
A common question around Botox is how old do you have to be to get Botox, or when should you start Botox for best results. It generally depends on each patient’s skin type and specific skin concerns.
DOES BOTOX AGE YOU?
On the contrary, it helps you regain your skin’s firmness. Botox works by temporarily relaxing the facial muscles that cause creases and lines on our skin. Regular Botox injections weaken these muscles, so it may take less Botox over time to produce the same result.
When we evaluate wrinkles and lines on the face, we look at 2 types:
Dynamic Wrinkles: these are lines that only appear when we make expressions, but then disappear when the face is at rest
Static Wrinkles: these are lines present on the face even at rest
Many people wait until they see wrinkles before seeking Botox treatment. Botox works best for dynamic wrinkles, since it’s relaxing the muscle creating it. Static wrinkles do not respond to Botox, since they have been etched into the skin from creasing that spot over a long period of time.
Preventative Botox treatment is essentially the same as regular Botox injections. The only difference is that the former starts targeting the area surrounding your forehead, eyes, and mouth much before wrinkles and deep lines even develop.

WHEN TO START BOTOX
Botox is FDA-approved for patients 18 years old and above. Lines and wrinkles aren’t the only thing that happen to our skin as we age, so let’s look at the decades to see what Botox can do:
In our 20’s: You’re unlikely to have lines earlier than your mid-20s. So, most experts agree that preventative Botox treatment is ideal for this age group, as it has the best chance to prevent lines from ever forming.
In our 30’s: Some fine lines may be apparent, and Botox is a great option to take them away and prevent deep lines from developing.
In our 40’s: We’re usually seeing more prominent lines on the face, as well as other signs, like sun damage, enlarged pores and less skin reflectivity. Botox can still help to soften lines at this time. Lips may start to thin, and a Botox “lip flip” helps to improve the fullness of the lips for an improved appearance. BBL treatments can remove sun damage and restore even skin tone to brighten the appearance of skin. Sofwave ultrasound treatment works best to lift and tighten skin on the face, around the jawline, and on the neck to prevent sagging in these areas.
In our 50’s and beyond: Without maintenance care, signs of skin aging are most prominent. In these ages, Botox is mostly used in combination with additional treatments to address more advanced signs of aging. Dermal filler can restore lost facial volume. A Halo laser resurfacing can polish skin and remove superficial scarring. Sofwave ultrasound treatment can lift sagging jowls and neck. Morpheus8 microneedling can tighten skin and restore lift to the face, under the chin, and neck.
Fine lines and wrinkles form naturally as a result of facial expressions and movement, such as laughing, frowning, squinting. At a young age, the skin is more flexible, with high content of collagen and elastin, and seamlessly springs back in place after extensive facial movements which form temporary grooves. With aging, depending on genetics and lifestyle, the skin loses its elasticity and flexibility, and these lines slowly but surely become permanent. The decision to prevent, or treat, these lines is ultimately up to you, but our experts are here to make sure you know all the options available!
